St. Leo, Minot – Exterior Renovation 2011
A celebration took place on November 10, 2011, the feast day of St. Leo the Great to mark the 125th anniversary of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot. The event was extra-special as it also marked the completion of the exterior renovation project of the church. The restoration project was a complete building envelope restoration involving a new roof, 100% tuckpointing, a new handicap accessible entrance and addressing the structural integrity of the steeple. The project cost was $3.5million which the parish planned to fund primarily with a capital campaign and a loan with the Parish Expansion Fund.
The work was well underway when the 2011 flood devastated the city of Minot. Though the floodwaters did not reach St. Leo, the flood created logistical and financial challenges for the project. Many parishioners were impacted directly by the flood where their immediate priorities overshadowed pledge commitments, however through the generosity of the many, the restructuring of the Parish Expansion Fund loan, and God’s grace the work was completed.
